Turkish Alzheimer Foundation has founded the first care centre for patients with Alzheimer’s disease in Istanbul, Altunizade, 2002. The capacity of this centre is limited with 20 patients. In the care centre, patients are included in the social activities such as sports, painting and music.

There are full-time nurses, hospital attendants and a psychologist while a neurologist visits the patients once a week. Caregiver support groups are also being held by psychologists for the relatives and care takers of the patients.

Yasamkent is the name of the other care-centre in Kemerburgaz. Alzheimer Foundation has signed a protocol for its section with Alzheimer disease patients. Besides Istanbul, there is a day care centre in Ankara and Izmir is planning to be the next.
